California’s Central Coast: Part 1

We had an action-packed long weekend  as we traveled north towards Cambria, California.  This trip was 2+ years in the planning.  We tried to go last year, but my Grandpa passed away, so we gladly detoured to join with family and celebrate his life.  But this year, we made it!

Our first stop was dinner at the Murray’s home.  The Murrays moved away in February and oh how we miss them!

It was so good to see where they live now and to reconnect over Kate’s world famous cous-cous chili.

We overnighted in a nearby Simi Valley hotel (thank you flash deal websites) and were ready to go early the next morning to a place on our bucket list:  The Ronald Reagan Museum and Library.

I was in tears several times.  Reagan was a good man.

Our next stop was San Luis Obispo, CA.  Home of the mighty Cal Poly Mustangs.  And the infamous Bubble Gum alley.  And Woodstocks pizza.  And Thursday night Farmers Market.  We totally scored.

Lovely, no?

The kids didn’t know what to think of Bubble Gum Alley.

We knew to just keep your balance and don’t let your hands even think of touching the walls. Ewwwww.

Loved the SLO (San Luis Obispo) Thursday evening farmers market.  As a student, I remember getting a bag of crisp apples and crunching on them as I walked by the street vendors.  Who has farmers markets at night anymore?

OK, this post is already getting too long… I’m going to split it into two.
