Apricots

Our wonderful neighbors have been sharing their delicious apricot harvest (thanks so much!). I made apricot cobbler last night: Jeff loved it but it was a little too tart for me (I should have added more sugar). I have great kitchen helpers who help me make guacamole and juice oranges. Z loves finger size pasta and peas these days. Oh, last night I made a chicken salad that got rave reviews from the hubby: leftover shreaded rotisserie chicken, blue cheese crumbles, green grapes, foccacia croutons, chopped walnuts, lettuce and blue cheese dressing.

Cousin Time

My sister, Stacy Johnson, and her 3 kids are visiting from Ft. Collins, CO this week. We took a hike, found a tire swing, ate lunch, celebrated July birthdays, and played. We love our cousins!

Good Team

So today I'm helping J (3 years old) put his sandals on - he can't quite rip the velcro apart to loosen them. I basically do this every day for him. As he's slipping his shoes on, he looks me in the eye and says, "Mommy, we make a good team." I couldn't agree more.

No A/C

Jeff literally "curled up" on the cool tile floor today and took a nap. Yes, it's hot and no, we don't have a/c. Went swimming this morning and that was great!

Also, we bought 25 haas avocados at a roadside stand today for $5. 5 bucks! Ahhh it's so great to be living in avocado country again. Jeff's going to be living in guacamole city for the next few days - he'll love it!

San Diego County Fair - Del Mar

So we headed out to the fair today. I'll be honest, I'm not a huge fan of fairs. As a kid I didn't get good vibes at fairs and the feeling was reinforced today. I go to a fair for the livestock, not the rides and food. We packed our own lunch (so we didn't have to eat fried twinkies or fried dill pickles - where do they come up with this stuff?) and had a good time. I even made and brought a pasta dish to enter in a cooking contest, but it was too crowded and we didn't make it to the contest in time. Oh well. The petting zoo and the cow milking demo were great.

USS Midway

We visited the USS Midway (retired aircraft carrier/museum docked in the San Diego Bay) on Sunday. At 6'7", poor Jeff had to duck as we toured the carrier, but he wasn't complaining! It was awesome.
