It's been too long since I've written down the events of our life, and it makes me sad. Rachel and Sarah sat on the couch earlier this morning reading through a Blog book that I wrote and created in 2010 and I'm so glad I did that, but I'm sad that I haven't continued. So here's a little update on the Garland Family.
We are now in our 9th year of homeschooling, partnering with classical academies. Sara is in 8th grade Josh is in 6th grade that is in third grade and Rachel is in first. Sarah started having seizures this summer and we were sort of in denial for a while but after the seizures started happening every 3 to 4 days consistently, we decided to finally go in and see the doctor. Dr. Pfeiffer ordered an EEG (a sleeping test), and a brain MRI with contrast. Thank you Lord that her MRI was totally normal and it wasn't a brain tumor causing her seizures. Sarah has now started taking some medicine, Trileptal, and that seems to be decreasing the frequency of her seizures. At the last minute, we decided to switch Sarah from A track to C track with TCA Vista, so now Sarah is spending her eighth grade year at home with me, and I love it. Sarah’s seizures are unpredictable, so I'm very glad she doesn't have to run the risk of having them in a classroom full of kids. Josh's teacher is mrs. Friestad for Math and Mrs. Morris for language arts. Zacs teacher is Mrs. Patty Xasapannah. Rachel's first grade teacher is Mrs. Alicia Gresser.
We had a fantastic summer driving from San Diego to Colorado Lisa bulkley family and Hotchkiss on the way there and loved our time in Breckenridge Colorado with the Sullivan family. We needed an extra week of course. we got to see Julie for a couple of days while we were in Denver staying with James and Lauren cousin time is always so much fun. Julie continues to battle ovarian cancer, but her dog Louie is a fantastic source of entertainment for her and I'm so thankful she has him. While we were there, Julie was actually in the hospital fighting rough reaction that she had from one of her radiation therapy is. She is truly a fighter. Well we stayed with James and Lauren, we went to the Lone Tree swimming pool one day and had a great time with McKayla and James Carter. it was in Centennial where Lauren introduced me to her chocolate shakes with peanut butter and banana and spinach leaves and I'm happy to say I have lost 10 pounds thanks to those chocolate shakes in the last few months.
Family Christian coop is in its third year and this year our facility is Carlsbad Community Church. We were at TCA Vista the last 2 years, and that was just fine, but it is so nice to be at a church with lots of space and a park right across the street for us to enjoy lunch at. this year, Jeff is teaching engineering Adventures which includes him coaching 3 Lego teams with first Lego League robotics competition. This is all new for us, so word making lots of mistakes butt I think the kids are having fun I'm coach of Josh's team Kama bryony Kiker is there is coach, and Liz gnecco is that coach. I am co-teaching astronomy with Jimmy Cliff and Laura Smith. Monday I get to teach on Mercury so we will be making our own craters with flour and cocoa powder and Pebbles. last night, Josh Rachel Zac and I took a solar walk over by Lake Calavera to see all the signs spaced out to scale.
