Bunk Beds

Jeff is such a good daddy.  He is building a set of bunk beds, and our kids are ecstatic.  The garage has been taken over by the project, but he's 80% done.  Cuts, notches, router, sanding, stain and varnish.  Jeff's so great at mathematical puzzles so these bunk beds are right up his alley.  The supports literally look like Lincoln logs that somehow will magically fit together.

And yes, this is no typical bunk bed.  Jeff designed the bed frame for potentially tall people (aka our kids).  Inspired by our friends the Bauckmans, the lower bunk has ample head room so that you can easily sit and not hit your head on the upper bunk.  Therefore the upper bunk is waaaaay up there.  We don't have an official ladder (not OSHA approved), but we do have the railings around the upper bunk mattress so a kid will stay put.  Also, we plan on using standard twin size mattresses on it, but Jeff designed it to be able to fit an extra long mattress if/when we need it.

I think Jeff is building this bed frame just so he can use his wood clamps.  He loves those things.  I'll be sure to snap a photo when they're complete.  It's gonna look so good!

Jeff and my Dad:  The piece Jeff's holding really looks like a Lincoln Log!
