Our road trip from San Diego to Colorado recently wrapped up… 2 weeks long, 2 driving days and 1,000 miles each way. SUCH a fabulous time.
We watched High School Musical 1 and 3, CARS, and listened to the Mysterious Benedict Society on audio book. Of course, 16 hours sitting in a car was tough at times.
I tried out a point system… 1 point for:
reading 30mins
Doing 3 worksheets (math, spelling)
other things I can’t remember right now
Every 3 points you could earn:
a treat
20 minutes on a tablet/leapster
riding shotgun
watch part of a movie
It wasn’t perfect, but it gave us a little structure:
On our way… at a rest stop somewhere in Utah. Man, Utah is amazing.
Our first Colorado stop was Copper Mountain where we got to throw snow balls at Grandad. In July:
Hot-tubbin’ in Breckenridge:
The Riverwalk: I pay $1 to kids/nieces/nephews who crosses the creek successfully:
The gondola is the only way up to the base of peak 8 in Breckenridge. It’s super fun and it’s free, so we rode it a LOT:
We took our bikes up the gondola, then rode downhill. Good thing we checked our brakes out first, because we sure needed them:
Feeding cat food to the fish:
And then the party really started when our cousins showed up:
Playing Dodge ball at Carter Park:
My dad spent a lot of time in the water with all of his grandkids. Oh my goodness, do these kids love their grandparents:
Zac’s favorite waterslide ever:
Everyone worked on a mak-a-plate craft project:
We made a Mak A Plate instructional video here.
We celebrated July/August birthdays (Sum, Brooke and Zac):
My sister Stacy, me and my momma (thanks for the hats, James and Lauren!):
One crazy happy Grandmom on a gondola:
Live worship music by the hot tub (doesn’t get much better than this):
12 of us hit the trail… on horseback:
Even Brooke (4yo) got her own horse:
