This is our current method of rewarding good behavior. We've been giving out tokens (we don't call them poker chips) for over a year now, and the kids love it. We give them out when a child goes above and beyond to be helpful, has a good attitude, or they do extra chores around the house, etc. Every two weeks the devoted Mr. Garland sits down to dole out allowance and also converts these tokens over to cold, hard, cash. Which will probably be spent at Legoland on a new set of Legos.
Sarah has a ton of tokens in this shot, mostly because she recently had a piano lesson with me. Yes, we pay our kids to learn to play the piano (gasp!). Better to have them get out the kinks with us before we shell out the big bucks for an official teacher. It's worked out really well so far.
